Annual Science Quiz Competition organised by Chief Dr. Ehijene
The superiority line has been drawn once again, victory has been secured, and the drums of success beaten aloud in celebration of another remarkable achievement.
St. Charles College, Abavo has once again affirmed its position as the leading secondary school in Abavo by emerging champions in the annual Science Quiz Competition organised by Chief Dr. Ehijene.
The competition, which held on 11 July, 2026 at Abavo Girls' Secondary School, featured both the junior and senior secondary categories. St. Charles College recorded an outstanding performance by clinching first position in both categories.
In the Senior Secondary category, the school was represented by Ikechukwu Favour (Senior Prefect), who also emerged as the Overall Best Student. Other members of the victorious team were Nwoga Christabel (Laboratory Prefect), Ehiemenonye Praise (Labour Prefect), and Johnbull Success Chioma, all of whom contributed immensely to the team's success.
In the Junior Secondary category, the winning team comprised Israel Gift, Mariere Chibuchim, Emmanuel Joan and Nwachukwu Divine, whose brilliance and teamwork earned the school another first-place finish.
This exceptional achievement is a testament to the hard work of the students, the dedication of their teachers, and the unwavering commitment of the school management to academic excellence.
First Term Academic Calendar for the 2026/2027 Released
The First Term Academic Calendar for the 2026/2027 Academic Session, as released by the Education Board Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Issele-Uku under the leadership of Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Emmanuel Ogbolu, provides for a 13-week academic term.
According to the calendar, schools are to resume for the First Term on Monday, 14th September 2026, while the term will come to an end on Saturday, 12th December 2026.
During the term, all Catholic secondary schools in the Diocese are expected to participate in the Bishop's Cup Tournament, which is scheduled to commence on Friday, 2nd October 2026, and conclude on Saturday, 21st November 2026.
The calendar also provides for Career Week, which will hold from Wednesday, 7th October, to Friday, 9th October 2026.
In addition, Tuesday, 6th October 2026, has been designated for the Schools' Mass with the Bishop at St. Paul's Cathedral, Issele-Uku. All Catholic schools within the Diocese are expected to participate in this important diocesan celebration.
Parents and guardians are kindly requested to take note of these dates and support the school in ensuring the full participation of their wards in all scheduled academic and co-curricular activities throughout the term.
New school buildings new completion.
The construction of the new school buildings, generously sponsored by a philanthropist, is progressing steadily and is now approximately 90% complete.
The project comprises two laboratory blocks, one library, two toilet blocks, four classroom blocks containing six classrooms each, and one administrative block. Upon completion, these facilities will significantly enhance the school's physical infrastructure and provide a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.
The remaining works include the installation of ceilings, painting, fixing of doors, and external ground works. Once these final stages are completed, the buildings will be ready for occupation and use.
Also, when fully completed, the project will provide state-of-the-art educational facilities that will greatly improve the quality of teaching and learning, support practical instruction, and promote academic excellence.

St. Charles College, Abavo has officially concluded the 2025/2026 academic session after a rigorous and rewarding term of academic activities. At the end of the session, students who met the required academic standards were promoted to the next class, while those who did not meet the promotion requirements were advised to repeat their classes to enable them gain better mastery of the subjects before progressing.
The management wishes all pupils and students a restful and productive holiday and encourages them to make good use of the break by reading and preparing for the new academic session. School will resume for the first term of the 2026/2027 academic session on Monday, 14th September, 2026.
Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2026 held.
On 24th July, 2026, the management and staff of St. Charles College, Abavo successfully hosted the graduation and Excellence Award Ceremony for the graduating Primary 5 pupils and Senior Secondary School 3 (SS3) students.
The colourful event was attended by parents, guardians, invited guests, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the achievements of the graduating class. The ceremony featured inspiring welcome songs, an engaging debate, a thought-provoking talk show, mock news presentations, speeches, cultural dance displays, and the presentation of excellence awards to deserving students and staff. Also, prizes were as well given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions in each classes both primary and secondary.
The school expresses its gratitude to all parents, guardians, guests, and supporters whose presence and contributions made the event a memorable success. The management remains committed to providing quality education and nurturing students for academic excellence and good moral character.
